1,000 Jobs Approved. The Fire Station Is Still a Pitch.

Palm Bay City Council recap, October 15, 2026: Emerald Lakes, the fire ladder, and the station nobody has signed for.

Thursday night's council meeting ran two hours and thirty-nine minutes. This narrated recap (about eight minutes, with two key moments in the meeting's own words) covers the unanimous Emerald Lakes vote, the deputy's promise that no hotel opens without the ladder truck, the city manager's public pitch for a partner to build the South Regional fire station, the scrub-jay exchange, and a rain report with numbers worth hearing precisely.

Editor's note, Oct. 16, 2026: This report described Deputy Mayor Mike Jaffe as absent with no reason given, because no reason was announced during the meeting. Jaffe has since told The Palm Bayer that his colleagues were supposed to announce the reason: that evening he was in Orlando, in his capacity as deputy mayor, for the Germany-Florida Innovation Evening, a Florida-Germany trade event hosted with Siemens Energy at the same hours as the council meeting, 6:00 to 9:15 p.m. He shared his invitation from the German Consul General in Miami.
