Watch now | Councilman’s First Amendment case against Palm Bay dismissed as parties reach settlement; terms remain confidential until City Council votes, though timing and extent of public disclosure uncertain
This outcome was predicable. The Palm Bay City Council is a joke. The mayor is in over his head, the city attorney is a clown and the city itself is begging for help only to fall on deaf ears.
Again, the City hiring outside Counsel. Why? The citizens of Palm Bay are paying an astronmical amount of money for the City attorney and her Assistant attorneys to advise council, City Manager and staff to avoid any litigation and here we are again. How many lawsuits has Palm Bay been involved in the last few years and how much have the taxpayers had to pay for outside consultation and representation? This just doesn't set well with me.
Thanks Tom. If they have settled, IMO that's the smartest thing the Council has done this year. I for one are offended when my tax $$ help make Attorneys rich. The voters will have their say here ultimately. (as they should)...
I was under the impression (I seem to remember) that Langevin was censured because he used his Palm Bay official letterhead to communicate to another government agency that contained derogatory and prejudiced statements regarding members of the Muslim and Indian community! The social media posts are bad enough however, I don't know if he identifies himself as a Councilman here in Palm Bay.
Both of this issues offend me. I am neither one of the two nationalities mentioned. I do however, resent the comments he made. In my humble opinion, while he is in office he should not express these type of stereotypes while sitting on the board of my cities government! Of course, I would not have a leg to stand on (legally) if those comments were approved and supported overwhelmingly by the voting population of Palm Bay.
Thanks to the First Amendment, Langevin can comment and express his opinion on anything his heart desires as plain ol' Langevin. Not as a political influencer to the city where I pay my taxes!
Regardless of anything mentioned above, the office of a councilman should not be making these type of statements publicly. These comments are hateful statements. Serving nothing that will bring any good to our community except for hate and bigotry.
