Palm Bay City Council and Infrastructure Board to Discuss $150M Road Bond Program
Joint Workshop to Review Progress and Upcoming Phases of GO Roads Paving Project
On Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 6:00 PM, a joint workshop will be held between the Palm Bay City Council and the Infrastructure Advisory and Oversight Board at the Council Chambers, 120 Malabar Road, SE, Palm Bay, Florida 32907 [[1]]. The workshop will discuss the GO Road Bond Program update, a citywide initiative funded by a $150 million general ordinance bond approved by voters in November 2018 [[1]]. The program aims to address street paving issues across Palm Bay and is scheduled to be carried out in five phases over an eight-year construction period [[1]].
As of February 2023, the program has completed 306 miles or 39% of the total 791 miles of road paving. Phases 1 and 2 have been completed with 143.3 and 144.93 miles of paving, respectively. Phase 2's final punch list is being closed for Unit 20, with 100% of paving completed [[1]]. Phase 3 is currently in construction, with projects such as Unit 48, Emerson Drive from C-1 canal to Fairhaven, and Unit 30 undergoing work. Phase 4 projects are on hold due to escalating asphalt and cement costs, which include Units 6, 44, 45, 50, and 55, totaling 96.7 miles of milling and paving [[1]].

If this city had half a brain? They could have used larger contractors and bid this out at one job under contract at prices 2 or more years ago. By using small contractors I would be sure friends of friends we are going to pay more and get less.
