Palm Bay City Council Meeting: Deliberating the Fate of Evans Center and Addressing The Compound’s Crime
City Council Meeting is April 4, 2024 at City Hall
Palm Bay’s City Council is set to address a series of pressing issues at their upcoming meeting on April 4th, 2024. Among the many agenda items, the community is particularly focused on the closure of the Evans Center and the persistent crime problems in The Compound.
🏢 The Evans Center: A Community Asset in Jeopardy 🏢
The Evans Center, a community market that opened in 2019 with a mission to provide food, health care, and job training, has been a vital resource for the low to moderate-income area it served in Melbourne and Palm Bay. Despite its initial success and an operating budget of $500,000, the center was not immune to the financial strains brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to its closure in August 2023.
The City Council is now considering a $500,000 investment to purchase the property, a move that could protect the city’s interest and potentially allow for the continuation of services that the Evans Center provided. This decision is crucial as it could determine the future availability of essential services to the community that has come to depend on them.
🚨 The Compound: Community Seeking Safety 🚨
The Compound, a large, underdeveloped area in Palm Bay, has been a topic of concern due to its lack of infrastructure and persistent crime. A year-long study aimed at finding solutions for The Compound has concluded, suggesting the city should buy more property to create an industrial park in the northeast part of the area. However, this long-term strategy does not address the immediate issue of crime, leaving residents waiting for actionable steps to improve their safety and security.
The study’s recommendations, which mirror ideas discussed at the March 2023 Special Council meeting, have left some residents feeling that not enough is being done to address their day-to-day concerns. The council’s discussion on this matter is highly anticipated, as the community seeks a clear and immediate plan to reduce crime and enhance the quality of life in The Compound.
📣 Get Involved: Your Voice Matters 📣
These two agenda items are just a snapshot of the many topics that will be covered at the Palm Bay City Council meeting. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to voice their opinions and stay informed on decisions that will impact the community. I lived in California for almost 30 years. What I see happening in Florida is exactly what happened in California. Apartments going up everywhere, ANY type of INSURANCE, DESANTIS & HIS RINO'S OF THE STATE, GAVE HIS INSURANCE BOSSES A BIG GIFT. UCKING THE CITIZENS OF FLORIDA. JUST LIKE HIS FRIENDS CALLED DEM U KRAUTHS.
This new housing development in PALM BAY is being PROTECTED, THEIR 25 TO 50 TON TRUCKS SPEEDING ON BABCOCK, dropping rocks, Cement, dirt all over the roads. Wifes car got a cracked windshield from one of these trucks, my car has a chip in the windshield. NOT 1 WATER TRUCK TO KEEP THE DUST & DIRT FROM GOING INTO THE DRAINS, NO STRAW AROUND ANY SEWER DRAINS, WHICH IS FEDERAL LAW.
NEW EXIT OFF OF 95 AT ST. JOHNS PARKWAY. IF IT RAINING AFTER THEY TURE UP THE ROAD, THERE WILL BE 10 TO 15+ INCHES OF WATER YOU HAVE TO DRIVE THRU. NO DOUBT A REAL BAD WRACK WILL HAPPEN HERE.
CALLED THE PUBLIC WORKS, AFTER 4 TO 5 DAYS THEY CALLED ME BACK & LEFT A MESSAGE, THEIR UTILITIES COMPANY ARE HAVING TROUBLE. SO IN OTHER WORDS AS USUAL, DEAL WITH IT.
GOT PICTURES, TALKING TO THE FEDERAL AGENCIES, MAYBE IF THE GET A FINE FOR POLLUTING THE RIVER, THEY WILL TAKE THE WATER PROTECTION FOR REAL.
IN CALIFORNIA, IF ANY TYPE OF POLLUTING BODY WENT DOWN THE SEWER, & WAS CAUGHT, IT WAS A 50 THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE. & CONSTRUCTION STOPPED, A CAMERA WAS PUT DOWN THE DRAIN TO FIND THE POLLUTING BODY.
FROM 1 OVER REGULATION STATE, TO THIS STATE THAT DOESN'T FOLLOW ANY TYPE OF REGULATIONS.
BUT 1 THING ALL CORPORATIONS HAVE, THAT IS IF YOUR CONNECTED TO THE GOVERNMENT, NO REGULATIONS WILL BE ENFORCED.
I think there should be a controlled birn in quadrants
