Palm Bay, FL β Palm Bay residents, get ready for a whirlwind of civic activity on Thursday, May 23rd! The City Council has scheduled not one, but three meetings: an executive session, a special meeting to address scheduling issues, and a workshop focused on infrastructure. Buckle up for a day of critical decisions and behind-the-scenes discussions shaping the future of our city.
The day kicks off with a crucial executive session at 5:30 PM in the City Hall Annex. The meeting is dedicated to discussing legal strategies and potential settlements for the ongoing litigation between Community Asphalt Corp. and the City of Palm Bay. This case, which stems from the St. Johns Heritage Parkway Interchange to Babcock Street project, has garnered attention for its potential impact on the city's budget and its implications for future construction projects. Following the executive session, the City Council will reconvene for a special meeting at 5:50 PM to address a scheduling issue. The Council originally rescheduled the first regular meeting in July from July 4th to July 2nd. However, a council member is unavailable on July 2nd. To maintain compliance with the City Charter, the Council will consider moving the meeting to Thursday, July 11th at 6 PM. Additionally, the Council is proposing a special meeting in June to consider cases from the Planning and Zoning Board and ordinances for first reading. The proposed date for this special meeting is Tuesday, June 25th.
The final meeting of the day will be a workshop on infrastructure at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers. This meeting will focus on a wide range of infrastructure projects, with a specific emphasis on transportation and traffic improvements. The workshop aims to bring together City Council members, community stakeholders, and experts to assess the progress of projects like the Malabar Road Widening, the St. Johns Heritage Parkway widening, and the St. Johns Heritage Parkway Extension, which have been crucial for Palm Bay's continued growth. The workshop will also discuss the possibility of seeking a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for photocatalytic rejuvenation, a technology that can enhance the lifespan of roads and reduce emissions.
These three meetings on May 23rd demonstrate the City Council's dedication to addressing a variety of important issues that affect the community. From legal matters and infrastructure to schedule adjustments, these meetings highlight the constant work and deliberations required to navigate Palm Bayβs growth and maintain a high quality of life for its residents.

I see this as an attempt to get re elected. Why would they wait until an election year finally do the right thing for our infrastructure? In my opinion, we have been deceived for a long time. I am not going to reelect someone because they finally did the right thing on their last year of their term.
On another note, I am sure the council is given the dates of their attendance every year. How is it one of them is unavailable when it is scheduled. If this has to do with councilman Foster, who is in poor health, why is he even part of the council anymore? I would think that if he is the one that cannot make that date I think it is likely due to monetary greed. I know that I will not be voting anyone on this current council back into power in November!
