Thanks Tom. I was dodging the heat today indoors, and noticed this meeting was being replayed on the Spectrum Govt Channel . I can see why some of them want to eliminate a public comments section, that meeting was long, I'm sure the Council wants to get home in time to see Colbert. The Utilities Director gave a thorough review of the Turkey Creek broken sewer pipe. If I was to be sarcastic, I might say that there were a lot of mutual congratulations on fixing a problem that shouldn't of occurred. Somewhat blurring the line between activity and results. I'm not being critical of their work, that had to be a terrible job with media, residents, environmental groups, politicians etc coming at them like junkyard dogs. I was disappointed however that the corrective action included things like keep more "inventory' (as there was a delay in some critical parts caught in traffic on I-95). I heard no mention of possibly not forcing more residents to connect to this system until they are confident it can handle it (I came away with no such confidence). It was good to see one of the residents (Ms Coughlin) during a item comment point out that the justification for a lot of the city actions is its a mandate from "Tallahassee" , she pointed out that there should be push back on the State for some of these regulations.(we should all be echoing this against mandates like mandatory utility connections) In regards to Fire Trucks, has anyone noticed, often when there is a Ambulance run, its almost always accompanied by a Fire Truck? I've also noticed this in other localities. The more milk runs a Fire truck does, the faster it will wear out and the sooner my local government will ask us to pay for a new one.
They repaved my street today I am very fortunate to get the bang for my buck so to speak I truly appreciate it but at the same time feel bad for the majority of residents in this city that now have been moved to the back of the line or the line has now been shuttered, The council moving forward will now have decisions to make that will not be easy However they need to realize the financial constraints of the citizens.
And IMO need to look at the developers that have been almost given carte-blanche to develop and not be burdened with what that does to all the infrastructure, Joe six pack homeowner should not be saddled with the costs of infrastructure to the benefit of the developers IMO
