The lesson (to me) here is, beware of politicians pitching tax increases (no matter what they promise you). (Don't forget, these are the same guys trying to justify breaking the property tax cap) This is even more outrageous given the context of all of the growth the City has enjoyed has either been mismanaged or not monetized properly. If the contractor types on the council want to 4 lane Malabar road, why not require a automated toll for every (new building) construction vehicle that transverses the road in either direction? Given all the cement trucks, dump trucks, contractor vehicles and trailers, that would seem to be lucrative. Given the City has already demonstrated their proficiency (or lack thereof) in automated citation issuance in School zones, putting up a proven EZ Pass type toll system for construction vehicles might demonstrate some competence.
The residents that will now have to keep driving on crumbling patch work roads must be ecstatic to know the light at the end of the road tunnel is now an oncoming train.
