I just finished listening to this (lengthy) meeting. To me the most fascinating segment was the discussion of the extension of the St John's Heritage Parkway. I'll admit I can be a little slow around these politicians, but it suddenly became obvious that this is a vehicle to cram more houses into our city (I should of realized this sooner, as that's what happened to the West end). One of the property owners spoke about donating rights-of-way etc., in his pitch he commented the existing plan was a "driveway" for DR Horton. Now that I've seen the light here, I've concluded the reason nobody is pushing back against the State on mandatory utility connections, is that will be the enabler to build another City full of houses on the south side. By my count, the motion to proceed went from 2 for, 1 apprehensive, and 2 against, to passing 5-0. Quite the exercise of self convincing. I'm NOT anti growth, but like Groucho Marx said to a guy that told him he had 12 kids because he liked kids, to which Groucho replied, "I like my cigar too, but I take it out of my mouth once in a while". Lets hope those rust belt states reform and stop driving out hoards of people to seek freedom here.

Thanks Tom. I haven't watched the meeting yet but I can't help but notice the irony that these guys can't seem to manage a building expansion, a water utility, or be compliant to St John's Water Management District regulations, yet their system seems hell bent on ripping up working residential septic systems well inland from the Lagoon at great expense to the taxpayer with no justification other than blame Tallahassee and some vague pursuit strategy of government (taxpayer funded) Grants.
