Proposed Temporary Left-Turn Closures on Malabar Road
Palm Bay is considering temporary left-turn closures on Malabar Road between San Filippo and I-95 to reduce traffic congestion. A public meeting will be held October 6.

Palm Bay, FL – The City of Palm Bay, in cooperation with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), will hold a public meeting to discuss a proposed traffic change on one of the city’s busiest corridors.
What’s Being Proposed
Officials are considering the temporary closure of two left-turn median openings on Malabar Road between San Filippo Boulevard and I-95. If approved, temporary curbs or low-profile concrete barriers would be installed to block left turns in this stretch.
The goal is to test whether eliminating these turns reduces traffic backups on southbound I-95 at the Malabar Road exit. City and FDOT officials believe that combining these closures with signal coordination could improve traffic flow along the corridor.
Why It Matters
Malabar Road is a critical east-west route in Palm Bay and one of the main access points to I-95. Congestion in this area has long been a source of frustration for drivers. City officials say the test closures could help determine whether permanent changes are needed.
