Son Killed Mom's Fiance in Palm Bay
Thomas Pastor Jr. Faces Charges of First-Degree Premeditated Murder
Thomas Pastor Jr., a 24-year-old man from Palm Bay, Florida, has been indicted for first-degree premeditated murder in the shooting death of his mother's fiancé, Michael Akerberg. According to officials from the State Attorney's office for the 18th Judicial Circuit, police were called to the home on Cromey Road on February 11th after reports of a gunshot victim. Responding officers found Akerberg lying in the front yard, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being taken to the hospital, he later died from his injuries.
The incident occurred when Akerberg, who was engaged to Pastor's mother, was moving into their home and got into a heated argument with Pastor. The dispute escalated, and Pastor retrieved a firearm from his bedroom and shot Akerberg. Despite being wounded, Akerberg fled on foot, with Pastor in pursuit, and was shot again in the yard of a neighboring residence.
Pastor initially fled the scene but later surrendered to the police. He is currently being held without bond at the Brevard County Jail. The charges against him are severe, and if convicted, he could face life in prison or the death penalty.
The incident has shocked the Palm Bay community and is a reminder of the tragic consequences that can arise from disputes that escalate out of control. The case is still ongoing, and more information is likely to emerge as the investigation continues.
