West Malabar Road Lane Closure
Beginning October 8, Brevard County will repair guardrails along West Malabar Road between Avery Springs and Krassner, requiring intermittent lane closures near Heritage High School.

Palm Bay, FL – Beginning Wednesday, October 8, Brevard County Road & Bridge will start guardrail repairs along West Malabar Road between Avery Springs and Krassner Drives. Drivers should expect intermittent one-lane closures for one to two weeks, depending on weather and site conditions.
Repairs Target Key Safety Section
According to the City of Palm Bay, the guardrail repairs will focus on a canal crossing maintained by Brevard County. The section serves as a busy east–west corridor, especially during school hours, with traffic from Heritage High School and nearby neighborhoods.
Motorists are advised to use caution and allow extra travel time through the area, particularly during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup periods. County crews will manage alternating traffic patterns to maintain flow while completing the safety work.
County-Led Maintenance Effort
Unlike larger FDOT-managed road projects, this repair falls under Brevard County Road & Bridge’s maintenance authority. The division routinely performs structural and safety improvements along county-maintained roadways, including guardrail and bridge joint repairs.
Bridge inspection data lists the Malabar Road canal crossing as in “fair” condition as of early 2024, underscoring the need for these preventative safety upgrades.

In just 2 years, they will be widening Malabar rd. Why are you wasting money doing it now when it will just be torn down. Seems like you are flushing money.
Honestly, with all the houses going up, why are we not just widening the road? Today I was stuck in traffic at the red light. Except I was at Malabar Road by the McDonald’s on Minton stopped and the traffic light I’m referring to is at St. John’s Heritage Parkway. Come on now.
