TRAFFIC ALERT: Major Lane Closures on Malabar Road Through Jan. 23

Utility construction between St. Johns Heritage Pkwy and Championship Circle will impact daytime commutes for nearly three weeks.

PALM BAY, FL — Drivers on West Malabar Road should prepare for significant delays starting today. FPL and Pike Construction have begun major utility operations that will require daily lane closures and traffic shifts.

The work is concentrated on the busy stretch of Malabar Road between St. Johns Heritage Parkway and Championship Circle (the entrance to Fred Poppe Regional Park).

The Details:

  • Dates: Monday, January 5 – Friday, January 23, 2026

  • Times: Daily from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM

  • Location: West Malabar Rd (Heritage Pkwy to Championship Cir NW)

What to Expect:

Crews will be utilizing flagging operations and channelizing devices to manage traffic flow. This will likely result in:

  • Lane Detours & Shifts: Traffic may be reduced to a single lane in some areas.

  • Slower Commute Times: Expect heavy congestion during the mid-day window.

  • Worker Presence: Please use extreme caution and watch for flaggers and construction personnel.

Recommendation:

If possible, residents are encouraged to seek alternate routes, such as Emerson Drive or Jupiter Boulevard, to avoid the construction zone during work hours.
