The city received an urgent traffic advisory from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) this morning: nighttime ramp closures at the I-95 Malabar Road interchange (Exit 173) will begin as early as Monday night, December 1st.
These are not minor changes. The closures are necessary for paving operations and mark the first phase of the I-95 resurfacing project.
Watch the short video explainer above for a 1-minute overview of the closures and detour routes you need to follow.
Anticipated Closures and Detour Routes
Closure 1: Monday Night, December 1st (Off-Ramp)
Ramp Affected: Northbound I-95 Off-Ramp to Malabar Road (Exit 173).
Time: 9:00 PM Monday, December 1, to 5:00 AM Tuesday, December 2.
Detour Route (Mandatory): Motorists traveling northbound on I-95 must continue north to Palm Bay Road (Exit 176). You must then exit, turn left, re-enter southbound I-95, and continue south to Malabar Road (Exit 173).
Closure 2: Wednesday Night, December 3rd (On-Ramp)
Ramp Affected: Northbound I-95 On-Ramp from Malabar Road.
Time: 9:00 PM Wednesday, December 3, to 5:00 AM Thursday, December 4.
Detour Route: Traffic entering I-95 North must detour via Palm Bay Road (Exit 176). The detour varies by local direction:
Driving East on Malabar: Turn left onto Babcock Street, travel north to Palm Bay Road, turn left (west) onto Palm Bay Road, and enter I-95 North at Exit 176.
Driving West on Malabar: Continue to Minton Road, turn right, travel north to Palm Bay Road, turn right (east) onto Palm Bay Road, and enter I-95 North at Exit 176.
Note: The work schedule is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Plan your route accordingly.
